Legnani wins VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa from top seed

Big payday for Lucas Legnani (pictured left). Argentina's No. 1, who finished first and second in the 2007 and 2008 Pan American Ranking finals, defeated Dominic Barrett, England, in the title match, 211-205, to win the VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa and the 12.000 Euro top prize.
In the opening match at Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona, Spain, Barrett, the No. 2 seed, eliminated No. 3 Mathias Årup, Sweden, 213-196. Barrett received 6.000 Euro for second place while Årup garnered 3.000 Euro.
The European Bowling Tour is at Le Plaza Bowling in Saint Maximin near Paris, France next week for the prestigious Brunswick Euro Challenge March 6-15.
48 out of 120 players, the top 30 in the overall qualifying standings plus the top player of each qualifying squad not among the top 30 plus the next best six women, advanced to the finals and carried forward 50 per cent of their respective qualifying total.
Those 48 players bowled four games. The top 24 advanced and determined the three players for the stepladder finals in another 4-game block with the previous pinfall being carried forward.
The VII Catalonia Open - Trofeu Galasa is the third stop of the 2009 European Bowling Tour and one of the Tour's "Majors". The tournament offers total prize fund of 55.000 Euro. The top 48 players will cash.
